Figurine of a Woman Notions of what makes women attractive have changed over the course of Chinese history. Figurines found in Tang tombs, like this one, show that full-figured women with plump faces were admired in the mid- and late Tang. Emperor Xuanzong’s favorite, Yang Guifei, was said to be a plump woman, and the fashion is thought to have spread from the court.(Werner Forman/Art Resource, NY)
