Kacey Musgraves became a hot country star in 2013 with songs featuring lyrics sometimes tagged as controversial, especially within the often-conservative country genre. Musgraves has spoken about wanting to try out other musical genres, and country does see a lot of entrances and exits: Taylor Swift started off as a country star before branching out into pop, while singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow gravitated to country music later in her career.
