Disaster Relief and Pregnant Women This refugee from Hurricane Katrina and her newborn baby received care in a Baton Rouge, Louisiana, shelter that focused on pregnant women and newborn infants and their parents. Massive relief efforts sometimes mean that access to care for pregnant women is actually improved in the aftermath of a disaster. Of course, the quality of health care certainly doesn’t improve for everybody, which means that an interaction is involved.
