6.20 The translocation of chromosome 21 onto another chromosome results in familial Down syndrome. Here, the long arm of chromosome 21 is attached to chromosome 14. This karyotype is from a translocation carrier, who is phenotypically normal but is at increased risk for producing children with Down syndrome.
