Candace: How do I define abnormal? I would define it as something that is out of the realm of ordinary. Something that you don't come across every day. Something that's unusual.

Lana: In my opinion, behavior becomes abnormal when it deviates from social norms and it impairs the person's daily life.

Sharon: Everyone gets worried it's natural let's say you have a big test in like three days and you stress out over it. Being abnormal, you tend to lose sleep over it. Maybe you study up all night, don't get an ounce of sleep for the next three days. I would say that's pretty normal.

Shilla: The difference between being sad and then depressed is with being sad, it's like someone kind of said something to you or you see something, and it makes you feel just a bit down. But you can easily recover from that. But with depression, I think that you have that feeling of sadness, but it's a much stronger feeling, and it stays with you for a very long time.

Sharon: A couple years ago, I had a friend who was dating this guy and they dated for about a month, and it was her first serious relationship. So she was head over heels. But one night they had a huge fight, and it seemed as if that they weren't going to get back together. At first, it was just as if a small girl crush, you know, and she was like oh, it's fine, I'm over it. And she was sad, quite a bit. I think that was OK, and we talked about it. But throughout the week, she started drinking, she started going out and coming back at really late hours, maybe 6:00 in the morning, and then sleeping through the day, and then leaving again at midnight. And I wouldn't ever see her. And I didn't know what she was up to but it was all because of the breakup and she was just torn, and that's pretty abnormal.

Carla: My mother, she lost a baby. So it was a miscarriage. At first after it happened, we were all in this depressed state where we didn't want to talk about it, or we did want to mention things to make my mom feel bad. The thing was that at first, it was just a normal state it was because we knew what happened. So it was just normal to see that she was feeling upset, and because she's upset then it would affect us because we care about her and she's part of the family. So we can't let one person just fall behind. It started feeling abnormal when it just started to become this regular daily kind of thing, where she would just be upset. She wouldn't talk, she wouldn't eat. So that made it an even bigger situation.

Lana: I was watching a YouTube video about someone with OCD. Their daily life, they have to do a lot of tasks that impair them, and it's not really normal for the rest of us. So as an example, we all wash our hands. But someone with OCD, their disease causes them to need to wash their hands 50 times a day. So that task in itself is normal, but the frequency and how it differs from social norms, that is abnormal.
