In 2010, Canada produced 56.1 percent of the crude oil it used from its own resources, with most coming from western Canada. More than half of the crude oil from western Canada was shipped to the United States, with western Canada receiving most of the rest. However, Canada also imported 43.9 percent of its crude oil, with most of the imported crude going to the eastern provinces.
