Sub-Saharan Africa can be divided into four subregions that primarily reflect geographic location (rather than other affinities): West Africa, Central Africa, East Africa, and Southern Africa. Factors such as traditions and the current geopolitical situation have also guided the placement of a particular country in a particular subregion.
