Chapter Review

As you have seen in this chapter, taking essay tests requires more focus on time management than an out-of-class essay, but basically follows the same writing process you have been practicing in this class. Learning how to accurately interpret an exam prompt and create a plan of attack for completing the exam is invaluable and will help you in many other classes to come.

To review this chapter, choose one or more of the following strategies.

  1. Choose any selection you have read this semester and follow the prompt below. You can practice writing out the whole essay exam or just practice interpreting the essay question and brainstorming as if you were going to actually complete the exam.
Prompt Summarize the article and write an essay stating whether you agree or disagree with the author’s points. Be sure to elaborate on why you agree or disagree and include quotations or paraphrases.
  2. If you have an essay exam coming up, prepare by brainstorming sample questions or charting.
  3. Try to explain what you have learned, or at least part of it, to someone you know. Explain the key concepts and give some of your own examples to illustrate those concepts.
