Build Comprehensive Quizzes

A comprehensive quiz offers an overall picture of students’ strengths and weaknesses on a set of skills. You can build comprehensive quizzes using two methods in LaunchPad Solo for Readers and Writers.

Build from the Quiz Bank

The quiz bank includes 4 different comprehensive tests. Quiz bank questions generally do not include feedback, but they are fully customizable.

For more information about quiz design and scoring, please see the Guide to Comprehensive Quizzes.

To add one or more of the tests to your course, follow these steps:

The quiz will report a single score to the LaunchPad Gradebook. You will be able to see the following analytics for the whole class and for individual students:

To determine students’ strengths and weaknesses per topic, please refer to the quiz key from the Guide to Comprehensive Quizzes as you examine your LaunchPad Gradebook.

Alternately, you can build your own comprehensive quiz from the quiz banks using question pools. Be aware that short answer questions are included in the quiz banks; those questions require manual grading. Preview your questions before adding them to the pool.

Building your quiz using pools means that you will be able to see students’ per topic performance based on quiz design; for example, if questions 15-18 were pulled from the fragments quiz pool, then you can gauge students’ performance on fragments from questions 15-18.

Assign the Pre-/Post-Tests to a Gradebook Category

The units in LaunchPad Solo for Readers and Writers include pre-built pre-/post-tests. When you assign the quizzes, you can create a gradebook category called Pre-Tests or Post-Tests for easy access; you can also change the order of categories in the gradebook.

Each pre-/post-test included in the unit includes 10 questions; to reduce the number of questions, use the advanced assignment settings.

Each quiz will report a single score to the LaunchPad Gradebook. You will be able to see the following analytics for the whole class and for individual students:
