QUEEN ISABELLA’S CROWN Queen Isabella probably wore this crown when she commissioned the voyage of Columbus and when he returned to report the good news of discoveries across the Atlantic. Made of silver covered with gold, the crown is relatively plain compared to crowns of other monarchs of the era. Only about five and a half inches in diameter, the crown would have perched on Isabella’s hair rather than encircling her head. Pomegranates decorate the crown, a symbol of Isabella’s court in Granada in what is now Spain.
