Florentine Codex This page from the Sahagún’s Florentine Codex illustrates Mexican workers processing feathers (top picture) for use in the elaborate and colorful feather decorations on shields, fans, clothing, and other objects (second and third pictures) greatly prized by Mexicans before and after conquest. The column of text along the right side of the page is in Nahuatl, the native language of Mexico that Sahagún tried to understand and translate into Spanish.
