  1. In Bacon’s Rebellion in Virginia in 1676, backcountry farmers protested the rule of a royal governor who did not seem to have the economic interests of many Virginians at heart. Compare the administration of Sir William Berkeley of Virginia with that of Thomas Hutchinson of Massachusetts in the 1770s. Are there more differences than similarities? (See chapter 3.)
