3. The Sentence Has a Compound Subject

A compound subject is two (or more) subjects joined by and, or, or nor.

And / Or Rule: If two subjects are joined by and, use a plural verb. If two subjects are joined by or (or nor), they are considered separate, and the verb should agree with whatever subject it is closer to.
