Main Point in Description

In description, the main point is the main impression you want to create for your readers. If you do not have a main impression about your topic, think about how it smells, sounds, looks, tastes, or feels.

The topic sentence (paragraph) or thesis statement (essay) in description usually contains both your narrowed topic and your main impression. Here is a topic sentence for a description paragraph:

Remember that a topic for an essay can be a little broader than one for a paragraph.

Whereas the topic sentence is focused on just one location and view, the thesis statement sets up descriptions of different views from different sites.

To be effective, your topic sentence or thesis statement should be specific. You can make it specific by adding details that appeal to the senses.
