Attachment Style and Memory We often remember best those events that fit with our view of the world. Researchers assessed 1-year-old children’s attachment styles with the Strange Situation task. Two years later, the same group of children were shown a puppet show in which some happy events (e.g., the puppet got a present) or unhappy events (e.g., the puppet spilled his juice) occurred. Securely attached children later remembered more of the happy events than the unhappy ones, but insecurely attached children showed the opposite pattern (Belsky, Spritz, & Crnic, 1996).
