Do strawberries taste better when dipped in chocolate? If you dip the big juicy ones and do not dip the small dry ones, then you will not know if the chocolate is what made the difference. But if you randomly assign some to be dipped and others not to be dipped, and if the dipped ones taste better on average, then you will have demonstrated scientifically what every 3-year-old already knows.
