39-year-old Scott Routley was considered to be in a vegetative state for 12 years following a car crash. However, recently in an experiment conducted by researchers at University of Western Ontario using fMRI, Scott Routley was asked to imagine swinging a tennis racquet at a ball. Brain imaging results showed that the areas of his brain that were activated during this task were the same as those for the control group. This demonstrated that Scott is aware and can answer questions.
