Sext Offender Sending sexually explicit text messages, or “sexting,” has become increasingly popular among young people. Although it may seem casual and fun, sexting can have serious repercussions. When 18-year-old Phillip Alpert texted a naked photo of his 16-year-old girlfriend, police arrested him for distributing child pornography. He was then assigned 5 years of probation and required to register as a sex offender (Feyerick & Steffen, 2009, April 8).
