Foot in the Door Reverend James Ishmael Ford goes door-to-door in Providence, Rhode Island, talking to residents about marriage equality. If Rev. Ford can just get his “foot in the door,” the resident might be willing to talk to him. With the foot-in-the-door technique, the person makes a small request (“May I have just one minute of your time?”) followed by a larger request (“Would you sign this petition?”).
