Rain Man
The subject of one of the most famous case studies in the history of psychology, Kim Peek was able to simultaneously read two pages of a boo
k—one with each eye—and memorize nearly all the information it contained. Like the movie character he inspired (“Raymond Babbitt” in the movie Rain Man), Peek had extraordinary intellectual abilities but a low IQ (Brogaard & Marlow, 2012, December 11). Case studies are often used to explore rare psychological conditions relating to cognition, personality, and behavior.
