Babble
Deaf babies who are exposed to sign language develop their own version of babbling. Instead of rattling off spoken syllables (da-da-da or ma-ma-ma) as hearing infants typically do, they babble with their hands, repeating the basic units of sign language (Petitto & Marentette, 1991).
