1. Have students get into groups of three or four people and make a list of everything they could do to prepare for an assigned speech.

2. Ask students to work in pairs to perform an audience analysis on their classmates as an audience for a speech.

3. Give students a general topic, and have them work in small groups to create two to three possible thesis statements for the topic.
