THE STRUCTURE OF AN ESSAY

Think of an essay as a complete piece of writing, with a title, an introduction and thesis statement, several paragraphs supporting the thesis, and a conclusion. (See Figure 7.2.)

Note: There is no set number of paragraphs that an essay should contain. The number depends on your narrowed topic, purpose, and audience.
