Figure 17-22: The Mass-Luminosity Relation For main-sequence stars, there is a direct correlation between mass and luminosity—the more massive a star, the more luminous it is. A main-sequence star of mass 10 M_⊙ (that is, 10 times the Sun’s mass) has roughly 3000 times the Sun’s luminosity (3000 L_⊙); one with 0.1 M_⊙ has a luminosity of only about 0.001 L_⊙.
