Figure 6-3: Light Rays from Distant Objects Are Parallel Light rays travel away in all directions from an ordinary light source. If a lens is located very far from the light source, only a few of the light rays will enter the lens, and these rays will be essentially parallel. This observation is why we drew parallel rays entering the lens in Figure 6-2b.
