Formatting print periodical entries

  • Place the title of the article from a periodical (journal, magazine, or newspaper) in quotation marks. Put the period inside the closing quotation mark.
  • Give the title of the periodical as it appears on the magazine’s or journal’s cover or the newspaper’s front page; omit any initial A, An, or The. Italicize the title.
  • For journals, include the volume number, a period, the issue number, if given, and the year in parentheses.
  • For magazines and newspapers, give the date in this order: day (if given), month, year. Abbreviate months except for May, June, and July.
  • List inclusive page numbers if the article appears on consecutive pages. If it skips pages, give only the first page number and a plus sign (34+).
  • End with the medium (Print).
