Directions for intensive practice (focus on grammar and on writing and editing skills)

  1. Write a paragraph or an essay on one of the fifteen prompts beginning here.
  2. Edit and revise your work carefully, paying attention to the suggested writing focus (or any other focus your instructor recommends).
  3. Take your finished work to your instructor or to the writing center for a conference. If you take your work to the writing center, explain to the tutor that this is a practice exercise and that you would like help with the specific area you focused on.
  4. Use your editing log to record any repeated mistakes you’ve made so that you can be aware of them and try to eliminate them in future writing assignments. (See E2-g for advice about editing logs.)
