#em#Chicago#/em# (CMS) system for citation in history writing

Writers in history typically use the style guidelines of The Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) for formatting their papers, for citing sources in the text of their paper and in endnotes, and for listing sources in a bibliography at the end.

The full CMS style is set forth in The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed. (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2003).
