Explain

  • Begin with the speaker’s name and the title of the lecture (if any), in quotation marks.
  • If you attended the lecture live (as in the first example), add the sponsor and the theater or other venue where the lecture took place, the city, and the date.
  • Add the label “Lecture” or “Address” at the end if it is not clear from the title.
  • If you found the lecture on the web (as in the second example), cite it as you would a short work from a website, giving the website title, the sponsor, the date of posting or of the lecture (whichever is available), and your date of access.

NOTE: When a URL must be divided at the end of a line, break it before a period or a hyphen or after any other mark of punctuation. Do not insert a hyphen at the end of the line.
