Explain

  • Begin with the name of the reviewer and the title of the review, if it has one, followed by “Review of” and the title of the book reviewed.
  • After the title, add a comma, the word “by,” and the name of the author of the book reviewed.
  • If the review covers two or more works, give the preceding information for all the works.
  • Add publication information for the journal, magazine, or newspaper where the review appears.
  • Add the database title, italicized.
  • End with the DOI or permalink, if available; otherwise with the shortened URL for the database.
  • If the review has no author, begin with the title of the review, if it has one.
  • If the review has no author or title, begin with “Review of” and the title of the book reviewed. In that case, alphabetize the entry in the list of works cited by the first principal word of the title of the book reviewed.

NOTE: When a URL must be divided at the end of a line, break it only after a slash or a double slash or before any other mark of punctuation. Do not insert a hyphen at the end of the line.
