After completing one of the writing assignments presented in this chapter or supplied by your instructor, turn back to the After Writing questions in Chapter 3 and respond to as many of them as you can. While addressing these questions, it might be helpful to revisit your response to the Learning by Doing activity Strengthening Your Main Impression, if you completed it.
Next, reflect in writing about how you might apply the insights that you drew from this assignment to another situation—in or outside of college—in which you have to observe a scene. If no specific situations come to mind, imagine that
in a human-behavior course, you’re asked to observe a busy street or transportation hub, making notes about considerate and inconsiderate behavior and its effects, if any.
in a business memo, you’d like to describe the clutter and mess in a workplace kitchen so vividly that employees will have an incentive to clean up after themselves.
