Section 5.3 Summary
- Section 5.3 discusses conditional probability , which is the probability of an event given that an event has occurred.
- We can compare to determine whether the events and are independent. Events are independent if the occurrence of one event does not affect the probability that the other event will occur.
- The Multiplication Rule for Independent Events is the product of the individual probabilities. Sampling with replacement is associated with independence, whereas sampling without replacement means that the events are not independent.
- We can use the 1% Guideline for approximating probabilities of dependent events.
- Bayes’ Rule allows us to revise probabilities of events in light of new data.
