Discover Your Attachment Style

One determinant of how quickly you’ll reveal yourself to others and form intimate relationships is your attachment style (discussed on (pages 47–48 in this chapter): secure, preoccupied, dismissive,or fearful. To gauge your attachment style, select the set of beliefs that best represents your view of intimacy. Then view your choice in the key below.

Attachment Style A
  • I am comfortable without close emotional relationships.
  • It is very important to me to feel independent and self-sufficient, and I prefer not to depend on others or have others depend on me.

  • I want to be emotionally intimate with others, but I often find that others are reluctant to get as close as I would like.
