During your college years or soon after, you are highly likely to create writing that is not just something that you turn in for a grade, but writing that you do because you want to bring about some kind of result. Often the purpose for doing this kind of writing may seem obvious to you. You may also have a clear idea of the message you want to deliver.
If so, consider what you want the result of your public writing to be so that you’ll have a better chance of getting your audience to respond appropriately. If you post an enticing video promoting a community choral production to a Facebook event page without saying when and where the concert will happen, you may not get all the results you want (a good turnout at the event) even if you reach an appreciative audience. Identifying specific results will allow you to think specifically about what steps you’ll need to take to make them happen.
