Sentence purposes

Writers use declarative sentences to make statements, imperative sentences to issue requests or commands, interrogative sentences to ask questions, and exclamatory sentences to make exclamations.

DECLARATIVE

Example sentence: The echo sounded in our ears. Explanation: This is a declarative sentence.

IMPERATIVE

Example sentence: Love your neighbor. Explanation: This is an imperative sentence.

INTERROGATIVE

Example sentence: Did the better team win tonight? Explanation: This is an interrogative sentence.

EXCLAMATORY

Example sentence: We're here to save you! Explanation: This is an exclamatory sentence.
