Writing with diversity in mind

When you can’t see or hear your classmates in person, it’s sometimes easy to forget that they come from a variety of backgrounds and may have differing levels of experience. Keep in mind that there will probably be a mix of genders, ages, cultural contexts, and linguistic backgrounds in your online community. Eliminate any sexist language from your online communication, and—out of respect for those who might not understand it—try to avoid using obscure slang, highly idiomatic language, or jargon.
