Module: Using signal phrases in APA papers

Mod-39

This module includes readings, an exercise, and writing activities to help you develop strategies for introducing source material appropriately. Whenever you include a paraphrase, summary, or direct quotation of another writer’s work in your paper, you should prepare your readers for it with a signal phrase. A signal phrase usually names the author of the source, gives the publication year in parentheses, and often provides some context. Click the forward arrow at the top right to get started.

Note: This assignment uses APA style; to practice MLA style, go to the module “Using signal phrases in MLA papers.”

Note: Many students find it easier to focus if they work through the lesson in full-screen view (click on the double-sided arrow at the top right of this page ). Click that arrow or the forward arrow to continue.
