This module includes readings, an exercise, and writing activities to help you develop strategies for introducing source material appropriately. Whenever you include a paraphrase, summary, or direct quotation of another writer’s work in your paper, you should prepare your readers for it with introductory words called a signal phrase. A signal phrase usually names the author of the source and often provides some context for the source material. Click the forward arrow at the top right to get started.
Note: This assignment uses MLA style; to practice APA style, go to the module “Using signal phrases in APA papers.”
Note: Many students find it easier to focus if they work through the lesson in full-screen view (click on the double-sided arrow at the top right of this page ). Click that arrow or the forward arrow to continue.
